of pakguards and perceptions.
Just last week, another theft was reported in college. Another laptop had gone missing.
But this was no ordinary theft. No sir, unlike the others, this one was done by professionals.
The criminals came in, dressed up as
TNB workers, drove past our unsuspecting pakguards at the entrance, went to a chalet, tricked a student into going somewhere else, then drove off with the goods.
The student, suddenly realising something was amiss, ran to the entrance, told a teacher, went on the chase, but the criminals were already long gone.
The police came, did their routine CSI thing, interviewed the witnesses and left, assuring the college community that they will do their best to apprehend the suspects.
And that was that.
Some questions were raised following that incident :
1) What the heck were the PakGuards doing the whole time? We have more PakGuards per square metre than monkeys, and still these things happen. Pak Guards subject parents and students to all kinds of verification excercises (just short of doing a full body search), and when it comes to supposed Electricians making an unplanned unscheduled suspicious visit to the college, they let them pass without the slightest hassle.
2) Were the previous thefts really done by students? Have we been wrong all this while and pointing the finger in the wrong direction?

In any case, lets take extra precautions with our belongings and lock our doors always always. Who knows, the next disguise the thieves might use is that of a Government employee! But then everyone knows that the Government's just brimming with crooks anyway ;)
