I made a mental note and forgot where I put it.
Just to mention, the DoE Silver participants from Mr. Vroege's group came back last Monday. Not that many people noticed they were missing in the first place. hehe :)
Since they took a different route than the first batch, they probably didn't get to buy any yummy strawberries, gorgeous flowers or any other Cameron goodies that one normally has access too. Nor did they get to see the misterious red shiny bike in the middle of the jungle path. Oh well, tough.
Don't worry, they will though. Come next time 'round.
I have a feeling there's a BIG PROJECT just around the corner, but I just can't put my finger on it. I just can't remember what it was. Besides the KYUEM INVITATIONAL RUGBY 10, I really can't think of anything else. That must be it then, though its not really that grand. Just about every notable college or high school in Semenanjung Malaysia is joining, but thats about it. hehe.
Held in UKM, its set to be one of the most exciting and adrenalin-injecting event this month. Prepare to be entertained. If that's not enough, well, there's more!
Right after the rugby thing is, wait for it ... OUR MOCK EXAMS! woohoo.
Boy, isn't it just wonderful to be a KYUEM student. :P

A little overdue, but still relevant. Last week saw the hosting of ICAN (Islamic Cultural Arts Night. Which wasn't held in a night but a week. Talk about a misnomer.) There was this talk by Ustaz Zawawi about love. Lovely. Then there was the ladies night, called Lailatul Nisa. The climax of ICAN was the Grand Night which included a sketch and a nasyid performance by the (reasonably) famous Al-Massar.
That Friday morning, 130 lucky students sat for ISAT. Some Australian entrance exam for overseas students. They wanted to gauge the quality of A level students and how they would fare if they went to Australia. Oh, for the sake of research.
With the rising UK exchange rate to our feeble ringgit, some of our students may indeed find the free ISAT (normally costs around RM 400) pretty useful. That is, they may find themselves suddenly being transferred to an Australian University. Horrors!
Oh, then there's that extra weekender. Awal Muharram. That wonderful holiday on a Monday. Oh, life is always such a bliss when you get a two-day weekend.
And they say we don't know how to appreciate things. Tsk.
You get to finish up that homemework that the teacher gave you weeks ago, which you could've done had you not been bombarded with useless "Big Projects". You get to wash the clothes that you can't send to the laundry, despite the fact that the college makes it compulsary for you to pay laundry fees. You could also study for your A levels, that is, if you weren't too busy reading up about MUET or some other pointless exam they want to experiment on us.
Okay, so maybe we don't know how to appreciate these things. So sue us. :P
Having said that, it takes quite a student to plough through all this rubbish and still come out sparkling clean at the end of the day. Then, and only then you'll know that you've made it. You've conquered KYUEM. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Finally. Nostalgic Malaysia is over (well, actually it was over days ago, but KYUEM being the only place where the internet has mood swings, this update was regrettably delayed). It was interesting. It was entertaining. Most importantly, it ended. Satisfactorily. Something worth being nostalgic about. But not yet. Now's the time to relish the (temporary) freedom. And study for the MOCK exams (or for some, time to focus on ICAN).
Amazing isn't it, how you prepare and anticipate so much for a project and then when the time comes, it ends before you realize what's going on. That's how Nostalgic Malaysia was for us the SC. And I believe this feeling is echoed by the respective House Directors along with their crew.
The results were as follows : 1st place went to TOPAZ house, followed by Garnet, Diamond and then Sapphire. The best P Ramlee impersonator came from TOPAZ as well. Congratulations to all the winners.
The event saw many an eccentric student dressing up to the occasion. Some guys, especially the cooler, ehem, seniors came in something that was cool 30 years back. Now, its just kind of funny looking. :)
What's most exciting was seeing so many people having a good time. Tonight we reminisced. Tonight we had a good time. Tonight we were nostalgic. And to top it off, tonight we had a hearty delicious meal. Thank you Dining Hall.
Sadly, there were a few dissidents to the whole idea. It is in their honest opinion that an event like this should only involve the Student Council, and that the student community (roughly the other 96 %) should not be involved in the organisation. Wow. I'm rather flattered that the SC are thought to be human beings who possess astonishing super powers. heh. Maybe they are rather taking the notion "a student government serves the students" a wee bit too far, eh? But seriously, the event would not have been possible without the active participation of all the House Committees. :)
On a separate note, the KYUEM PLAYERS (not referring to philandering individuals) are organizing a new play entittled " King Henry the Tenth". Rumour has it that the audience will be treated to many a wrestling scene involving a teacher and his students. The victim will hopefully be the teacher of course. Production Night is anticipated to be in the closing week of this semester. That's sometime in June. Still far off. (But if you think it in terms of the coming A level exams, its quite soon, actually.)
Okay, enough with the generous doses of nostalgia. Time to go to the RC. Gotta work on that 'A' grade. Good Day KYUEM.

All that you should leave behind.
Everyone has their limits. There is only so much a person can do. Let alone if that person is a student. On scholarship. Struggling with impending life-deciding examinations. In a college. Deep in the verdant outlands.
Rather describes almost everyone in KMYS, oops, I meant KYUEM, don't you think ?
One question who's answer has always eluded me is : why. why does this (insert expletive here) college always come up with so many activities for its inhabitants? WHY?
Is it because the big guns are afraid that we, the wonderful creme de la creme, top-of-the-line, Malaysia's hopes and dreams, students might suffer in the most unimaginable inhuman way : That we might get BORED.
get bored? GET BORED?! Perchance they actually believe that people can die of boredom. heh.
This weekend we have Nostalgic Malaysia. Students from every house are practicing day and night sacrificing their study hours to pay homage to some dead guy. Okay, okay, he deserves some respect. But the fact is he's still dead. And if we don't study, we're most probably going to join him. It won't be too bad since most students know him on a first song basis now.
Next weekend, we have ICAN. The incredibally self-believing Islamic Cultural Arts Night. For that too, students are wasting away their study hours. For a good cause, definately. But, still.
Then a few weeks after that, we have the KMYS (oops KYUEM) Inter-College RUGBY Festival. We only have that much study hours to sacrifice. What now, sacrifice sports hours? Oh, wait, the MPH is closed down till APRIL. a mere coincidence ?
Oh, what's that around the corner after Rugby, ICAN, and Nostalgic Malaysia ? Why, if it isn't our MOCK exams. riiiight after the rugby thing.
And people actually wonder why our November A/AS-level results were not as satisfactory. In the wise words of Homer Simpson, "D'Oh!".
Must we do all this? Must we busy ourselves, wringing each other's necks, wringing our own necks, losing our temper, losing our sleep, losing our scholarships just for some bloody activity that will not in any direct way effect our university placement except possibly in the negative?
Speak not on time-management. Hush on bulding a community. And don't you even think of mentioning boredom.
Where do we draw the line to say enough is enough? Where do we stop and say "NO."? I think that's the most valuable lesson of all.
Priorities. We've got to know our priorities. Right now its getting straight A's and flying away from here.
The rest, you just have to leave behind.

The artist formerly known as Prince.
I've seen it. I've seen it. New college letterheads. New college prospectus folders. "KYUEM", big and bold, staring at me right in the face.
We are the college formerly known as KMYS. It's almost official. Just need to wait till the fat lady sings. At assembly tomorrow. (announcing the name change, that is).
Where under heaven did they come up with that name anyway? Was there a voting booth we didn't know about ? That should be the case. I mean everything seems to need some sort of voting now and again. What happened to that sacred thing called democracy they're trying to expose to us so much ?
In related news, MUSCOM (the governing religious organization) just had its elections yesterday. Results pending announcement during assembly too. probably.
Also something to look forward to during assembly is the official handover of the student council. It has been heard that the outgoing council members will release some of the election statistics. And probably squash all/any rumours that have surrounded the not-really-controversial elections.
Finally, NOSTALGIC MALAYSIA, the incoming student council's first big project is this sunday.
8.15 pm. Great Hall. 15th February 2004.
What's Nostalgic Malaysia you ask? Well, it is the event formerly known as Colourful Malaysia. You know, one of those "let's promote some unity between the different races" kind of events. Then someone spoke up that the last thing that would promote unity is highlighting people's differences (the person did have a point. kinda.) Besides, we kids are seldom nostalgic (maybe because we're still too young?) and already too colourful anyway (a joke made by some teacher about the many coloured heads seen around college. it was rather funny. for a split second.). By the bye, we are being nostalgic about the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee. There's an interhouse P. Ramlee movie immitation contest. A whole playlist of his best songs. And not to forget, some dinner. Delicious dinner.
What's that ? How's it getting along ? oh, fine. just fine. in fact I could almost say perfect. But for the fact that the whole function may not turn out 100% successful. I did say probably though. Things are happening beyond the control of our mortal powers. But to quote another teacher (this time statistically a more humorous bloke) "Prepare for the worst and hope for the best".
So, run along now. Go on. Start hoping.

Hey, guess what ?
We're back. Back in college. Back to classes. Back for another couple of months before the next long break.
But are we really back in the SAME college ? (cue ominious music)
It seems that a lot of things have happened in the past 2 and a half weeks of holidays. Rumour has it that this is not the same KMYS that we used to know. In fact, we're not event called KMYS anymore. Let me repeat that.
WE'RE NOT EVEN CALLED KMYS ANYMORE!
No, I don't mean the crappy name change to UEMWC (WC being world college). To quote a certain catchy pop song, that name is so yesterday. We're now supposedly called Kolej Yayasan UEM.
So, what now? Do we call ourselves KYU as in literally " Q"?
OR
Should we go, "Hi. We're from KAYU" ?
No, that's too wooden. We probably should call ourselves KYUEM, pronounced as " QAYYUM". But then we'll sound like a religious school.
Heh. I'm pretty sure the matter will be resolved in due time. But is the supposed new name better than the shitty WC (pun intended) ?
BESIDES the name change (I know I know, "what's in a name". yada yada). Tha cafe, our cafe is now under a new management. Hopefully, this spells good food at reasonable prices. Please.
The MPH is still under renovation. Which means no sports for about a week. Couple that with your curiosity for the new cafe food. Hmm. Not good. Not good at all.
* Event Horizon is the gravity field of a black hole where the space-time is so bent that light cannot escape it. The event horizon creates a region in space where nothing can escape, if nothing can go beyond the speed of light. Thus when something enters the event horizon, it will vanish without a trace. Should the object be emitting something, after it is enveloped by the event horizon, not even the emissions that traced its existence will escape the black hole. -- More!
Point of no return ? hmm.

The DoE participants started arriving since afternoon. Dinner was a quiet affair. We were served rice, brown chicken and vegetables. Reasonably delicious. Kinda like a last meal or something.
That night most groups were busy with last minute arrangements. Important things were discussed, like who should carry the heavy canned food and why the h--- did we buy so many loaves of bread.
College looks mostly the same. Cleaner. Oh, they're fixing the MPH floor. I'm typing this in college. Yes, would you believe it, we have internet connection. During the holidays. Maybe they think this makes up for the various times we were internetless during school days. heh.
Am so sleepy. Wouldn't want to miss the trip. we'll be leaving college by 11.30 am. And it'll be a 2 and a half hours rough bus ride to the top.
Haven't heard anything about the AS results though. Wonder how the seniors fared. Hope they did well. :)

Here is the real KMB site url : www.kmb.edu.my
Sorry for the mess-up.
But it still doesn't settle the fact that even THEY have a website. A working website.
Which is worth a visit. :)

Has anyone visited our college website lately? Hmm. Problems trying to view it? Well, maybe, JUST MAYBE it's because as of this entry, WE DON'T HAVE A COLLEGE WEBSITE ? The only thing that we do seem to have is the URL which happens to be widely distributed via the back of our cool college t-shirt. Both the white and blue ones.
So, I took the liberty of creating and (hopefully) mantaining this weblog as a (again hopefully) temporary replacement for our college's virtual front.
Why do you bother ?
Well, for one thing, it keeps an up to date record of the happenings in our college. From inter-house competitions to the latest dedication-sales. From the most recently hired teacher to the latest song played by our headmaster during assembly.
I thought we already have a student website in the form of ai.net ?
That's a splendid site. But it can only be accessed internally i.e. through the students network. This site however will (I never stop being hopeful) be accessible by civilisation (READ : Anywhere outside of KMYS). People need to know what's going on in college. Be it your parents, your siblings, your ex-classmates, rival colleges ( KMB is one. Heck, even THEY have a website of some sort. hehe no offence meant.), our seniors, super-seniors and super-duper seniors. Basically everyone OUTSIDE of college. A point worthy of note: sometimes we KMYS denizens also seem to be unaware of the current happenings in college. For such a small college as ours (roughly 342 students; 80 staff + teachers) this is quite alarming.
Hmm... What's the catch ?
Everything of course will be entered based on my biased, shrewd, calculative and cynical point of view. muahahahaha.
But, seriously, please take in every opinionated entry with a grain of salt. It'll reduce any stomach upset. Trust me.
Who are you again ?!?
Its me, hazwan. the dude from chalet P 05 of Topaz. (memorize this address to ease any chocolate/flowers/sweets etc. dedication procedures. hehe)
In short, this site is a voice of the average KMYS student. Disagree? Feel free to reply/comment/critic on the available tagboard to your left. :)
